BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford University women's tennis team will play its third straight home match to open the 2010 spring season Wednesday at 2 p.m. (CST) as the Bulldogs welcome the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to the Samford Tennis Center for an in-state matchup.
Samford (2-0) heads into the contest with a full head of steam after reeling off back-to-back victories against Charlotte 7-0 and Columbus State 6-1.
The Bulldogs defeated Charlotte in their season-opener on Jan. 30 and then knocked off Columbus State on Saturday. Columbus State entered the match as the eighth-ranked team in the nation at the Division II level.
Jacksonville State (0-1) enters Wednesday's contest with hopes of bouncing back from a season-opening loss to Auburn Montgomery on Feb. 2. The Gamecocks were defeated by the defending NAIA national champions by a score of 7-0 at the AUM Tennis Complex in Montgomery, Ala.
Last season, Samford and Jacksonville were scheduled to square off in their annual meeting, but the match was canceled due to inclement weather.
Following Wednesday's home match against Jacksonville State, the Samford women's tennis team will next be in action Saturday at 9 a.m. (CST) as the Bulldogs begin a doubleheader against the Memphis Tigers in Memphis, Tenn. In the second match of Saturday's doubleheader, Samford is scheduled to square off against Austin Peay at 1 p.m.
