SouthernPigskin.com Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford sophomore offensive lineman Charlie Sanford was one of 12 Southern Conference football players named to the "Players to Watch" list for spring practice released by SouthernPigskin.com on Wednesday.

Sanford, who was ranked 11th on the list, started all 11 games at guard as a redshirt freshman on a young offensive line in 2009. At the conclusion of the season, Sanford, along with teammates George Allers and Cameron Yaw, was named to the SoCon's All-Freshman team.

In the official release from SouthernPigskin.com, the editors of the website said about Sanford: "With All-SoCon center Jon Weber having graduated, the pressure will be on the interior returnees to step up as leaders. Though he is just a sophomore, Sanford is ready for a bigger role. In 2007, he was a first-team All-State performer at Cullman High School."

Appalachian State quarterback DeAndre Presley was number one on the list. Presley will be one of the quarterbacks vying for the chance to replace graduated quarterback Armanti Edwards. The complete list of Players to Watch is below.
