Corcoran Named SoCon Track Athlete Of The Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ---- Sophomore hurdler Cavan Corcoran has been tabbed the Southern Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for all meets March 12-13. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

A native of Northville, Mich., Corcoran won the 110-meter hurdles at the `Southern Invitational on Saturday. He registered a time of 15.20 despite a head wind.

Corcoran is the first Bulldog track and field performer to be honored for the outdoor season and the third overall in the 2010 track and field season. Hillary Neal (middle distance) and Michael Seaman (pole vault) were honored during the indoor season.

The Citadel's Christopher Castagno was named the Field Athlete of the Week. The junior from Sugarland, Texas, took the top spot in the hammer throw at the Palmetto Classic with a school record of 163'0".

Samford sophomore Thomas Oliver was also considered for the Field Athlete of the Week award. The Birmingham, Ala., native won the javelin at the `Southern Invitational. His mark of 207'0" was both a personal best and a school record.

The Samford track and field team will be back in action next week, March 25-28, at the Alabama Relays.
