BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford baseball team will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
The Bulldogs enter the week with a record of 20-11 overall and 11-1 in Southern Conference play after sweeping three games from UNC Greensboro over the weekend. Samford has already surpassed its win total from last season when the Bulldogs were 17-35 overall and 9-21 in SoCon play.
Samford is led at the plate by Mason Meredeth, batting .364 with eight home runs and 33 RBI. David Schulze is batting .350 with a team-high 10 home runs and 36 RBI. Wayne Miller is batting .347 with six home runs and 26 RBI. Samford has not named a starting pitcher for Tuesday night's game yet.
The Crimson Tide is currently 21-11 overall and 5-7 in Southeastern Conference play after dropping two-of-three games at Kentucky over the weekend. In Sunday's game, Alabama trailed, 9-0 heading into the sixth inning before coming back for the 11-9 win.
Alabama is led at the plate by Taylor Dugas, batting .415 with eight doubles, three triples and 16 RBI. Clay Jones and Ross Wilson share the team lead in home runs with six each. The Crimson Tide is scheduled to start Brett Whitaker (1-1, 4.05 ERA) on the mound Tuesday evening.
Samford and Alabama will be meeting for the 99th time, with Alabama holding an 86-12 advantage in the series.
Last season, the teams split their two meetings, with each team winning at home. Alabama won last year's first meeting in Tuscaloosa, 11-6 on March 11, and Samford came back to win the meeting in Birmingham, 14-13 in 10 innings on April 15. Under head coach Casey Dunn Samford has a record of 3-5 against Alabama.
Samford is currently 8-3 in road games so far this season. Last season, Samford had a record of 8-16 in road games. This season, Samford has 23 road games on its schedule.
Following Tuesday night's game, Samford will play at Georgia Southern in a three-game Southern Conference series. The series will begin Friday evening at 6 p.m. (CT).
