Baseball To Play At No. 27 Auburn Tuesday Night

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will play at 27th-ranked Auburn Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Auburn's Plainsman Park.

The Bulldogs enter the week with a record of 23-16 overall and 11-6 in Southern Conference play. Samford dropped two conference games to Appalachian State over the weekend, falling in the games, 17-7 and 7-3. The third game of the series was canceled due to inclement weather in the Birmingham area.

Samford is led at the plate by David Schulze, batting .380 with a team-high 11 home runs and 48 RBI. Schulze enters the week with a 15-game hitting streak, the longest on the team this season. Wayne Miller is batting .370 with six home runs and 27 RBI, while Mason Meredeth is batting .356 with eight home runs and 39 RBI.

As a team, Samford is tied for first in the Southern Conference in hitting with a .314 team batting average. The Bulldogs rank second in the league in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, being hit by a pitch and saves.

Samford is scheduled to start sophomore right-handed pitcher Michael Gunter on the mound Tuesday night. Gunter has a record of 2-0 and an ERA of 4.22 on the season.

The Tigers are currently 27-14 overall and 10-8 in Southeastern Conference play after winning two of three games against Kentucky over the weekend. Auburn won the first game, 13-6 and the third game, 6-5. The Tigers dropped the middle contest by a score of 8-7.

Auburn is led at the plate by Hunter Morris, batting .413 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI. Dan Gamache is batting .386 with a home run and 19 RBI. Brian Fletcher also has 13 home runs for the Tigers, while Kevin Patterson has 11 homers.

Auburn will start junior right-handed pitcher Stephen Kohlscheen on the mound. Kohlscheen enters the game with a 6.41 ERA with no decisions over 19.2 innings of work.

Samford and Auburn are meeting for the 66th time in baseball, with Auburn holding a 52-13 lead in the series. Earlier this season, Auburn won at Samford by a score of 10-3 on March 23. Under head coach Casey Dunn, Samford is 5-7 against Auburn.
