Football Holds Full-Pad Practice Monday

April 5, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about two hours in full pads Monday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs returned to practice after taking the weekend off for Easter.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he thought the Bulldogs were a little sluggish coming back from the holiday.

"I thought they still had a little Easter in them today," Sullivan said. "We didn't practice like we've been practicing. Overall, it was sluggish today."

The Bulldogs started practice working on field goal and extra point kicking. The team also worked on individual position drills, 11-on-11 team drills, special teams and 7-on-7 passing drills.

Sullivan did say he saw some good things during Monday's practice. Sullivan singled out a few players who caught his eye during the workout.

"Bryce Smith and John Michael Clay come to play every day," Sullivan said. "I thought DeMarcus Covington made a couple of nice plays as well."

The practice was the 10th of the team's 15 spring workouts. The Bulldogs will take Tuesday off before returning to practice Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Samford will hold its second spring scrimmage Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at Seibert Stadium. The team will wrap up spring practice with its final scrimmage on Thursday, April 15, at 4 p.m.
