BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford University volleyball team will hold its Blue and White Scrimmage this Friday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
Samford started its second round of three-a-day workouts on Monday. The Bulldogs hold technical practices in the morning followed by team workouts in the afternoon and capped off with systems review in the evenings. Monday evening featured the team's first real team drills of the preseason. Samford head coach Derek Schroeder said the competitive spirit was very high.
The Bulldogs also have a new addition to the Samford volleyball staff in James Hanger, who will serve as a volunteer assistant coach. Hanger is a former volleyball coach who currently works for Regions Bank. He has been getting to know the team and the personalities of the players over the past week and has been very impressed with the competitive edge.
Samford begins the season Aug. 27-28 as the Bulldogs travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to play in the Arkansas Invitational. The Bulldogs will then return home to take on Troy on Sept. 1 before playing host to the Samford Invitational Sept. 3-4. In that tournament, Samford will face off with Northwestern State, North Texas, Tennessee Tech and Syracuse.
