Sullivan Pleased With Football's Mock Scrimmage Saturday

Aug. 28, 2010

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team held a mock scrimmage in preparation for the opening of the 2010 season Saturday morning at Seibert Stadium.

The Bulldogs used the mock scrimmage as a dress rehearsal for the season-opener next Saturday at Florida State. The team, working in shells, tried to cover every situation that could come up in a game.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan praised his team's work during the mock scrimmage. He said he liked the focus the players had on Saturday.

"I thought our concentration was really good today," Sullivan said. "The guys paid attention and they did a nice job. Hopefully we covered every situation they could possibly face in a game. We may face it the first week or not until the 11th week, but it has been covered and they did well today."

The Bulldogs will practice again Sunday at 2 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. After taking Monday off from practice, Samford will begin game-week practice Tuesday afternoon.

"Now we have about 48 hours where we need to get some rest and try to get our legs back under us and heal some of our wounded guys," Sullivan said. "Then, it will be a short game week next week."

Samford opens the 2010 season on Sept. 4, when the Bulldogs play at Florida State. The game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. (CT) start and will be televised live on ESPNU.
