BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford football team practiced for about an hour in shorts and helmets Sunday evening at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are preparing for Thursday evening's home-opener against Newberry College.
Samford is coming off a 19-7 win at Northwestern State on Saturday night. Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said the team was able to get the week off to a good start with Sunday's workout.
"Obviously, they were tired from the long bus ride and sore, but we were able to get an hour's worth of work in," Sullivan said. "We got a little bit of a start on Newberry and we corrected a few mistakes from last night against Northwestern State."
Sullivan said having the short week to get ready for a game changes the way the team has to prepare for its next opponent.
"It gets you out of your routine a little," Sullivan said. "It gives you a shorter time to study and it makes the players' recovery time a little different."
Samford will practice again Monday. The practice is scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.
Thursday night's home-opening game against Newberry College is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start from Seibert Stadium. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu. The game can also be viewed online via the Bulldog Big Screen at www.samfordsports.com.
