Women's Golf Earns Fourth-Place Finish At 2010 Sea Trail Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. - The Samford University women's golf team registered its best finish of the 2010 fall season Sunday as the Bulldogs placed fourth at the annual Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate hosted by Elon University. Samford carded a total team score of 926 (311-305-310) at the prestigious 10-day event held at the Sea Trail Golf Resort.

Elon's Tara McFadden posted a 1-under-par 215 (73-69-73) after three rounds to take an eight-stroke advantage and the top medalist honors while also leading her Elon squad to the team title at the Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate. Elon finished with a three-day score of 894 (299-295-300).

Morgan Jackson of Jacksonville finished second with a score of 223 (75-76-72), helping her team to the second-place spot with a score of 911 (311-302-298). Appalachian State placed third with a score of 918 (301-310-307) behind the lead of Yue Xu. Xu finished third with a score of 224 (75-74-75).

Samford finished fourth with a score of 926, while Presbyterian place fifth with a final score of 935 (322-308-305). The Bulldogs were paced in the tournament by sophomore Anna Heim. Heim, Samford's talented native of Lafayette, La., carded a three-day score of 228 (78-75-75) and earned an 11th-place finish in the individual standings.

Heim's 11th-place finish was the best of her young collegiate career.

True freshman Alex Jasper tallied an 18th-place finish in the individual standings. The Bulldogs' native of Clarksville, Tenn., carded a 76 on Sunday to finish the tournament with a total score of 233 (77-80-76). Samford's Kayla Turner was the most consistent player on the squad this weekend. She placed 22nd with a mark of 234 (78-78-78).

The Bulldogs' Sarah Butts finished one stroke behind Turner at 235 (78-76-81), while Savannah Schubert tallied a three-day score of 240 (82-76-82).

The Samford University women's golf team will next be in action Oct. 8-10 as the Bulldogs travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the annual Xavier Invitational to be held at the LPGA International Golf Course.
