Bauer and Reesor Earn Weekly SoCon Honors

Oct. 10, 2011

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Junior Alexis Bauer and Freshman Michaela Reesor were honored by the Southern Conference for their performances this past week, earning Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week accolades, respectively. They helped the Bulldogs to three conference wins, extending the team's record to 4-2 in conference, 17-3 overall, and 7-0 at home.

Bauer has anchored the Bulldog defense at the libero position this season and played three great matches last week, tallying 52 digs, averaging 5.2 per set. The Floyd Knobs, Ind., native led the team in digs in the Chattanooga (17) and Elon matches (24) and earned 11 in the UNCG match. Against conference opponents this season, she is averaging 5.30 digs per set, which ranks second in the SoCon.

The 2011 freshman class has contributed as much to the team's success as the veterans have, and Reesor was one key contributor this past week. Reesor ranked second among the team's offensive players in hitting percentage, earning a .431 clip behind 28 kills on 51 attacks and only six errors. The Caledon, Ontario, Canada native also went up for six assisted blocks and even took 25 digs, capping the weekend with a double-double in the match against Elon with career-bests in kills (15) and digs (18).

Bauer, Reesor and the rest of the Bulldogs will look to continue the home winning streak with matches against the College of Charleston on Friday, Oct.14 and the Citadel on Saturday, Oct. 15. Both matches are set to start at 7 p.m.
