The Samford University men's golf team will participate in its fourth tournament of the 2011 fall season this week as the Bulldogs will be competing in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday, at the par-72, 7,132-yard The Links at Novadell.
Each school in the 2011 F&M Bank Intercollegiate will field a squad of five, scoring the four lowest rounds. The tournament is 54 holes and will be comprised of two 18-hole rounds Monday, followed by a single 18-hole round Tuesday.
Monday's play begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (CDT) with continuous play to complete the opening 36 holes. Tuesday's round is slated to begin with a 9 a.m., shotgun start.
The field for this week's F&M Bank Intercollegiate will include Samford, Austin Peay, Belmont, Binghamton, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Morehead State, SIU Edwardsville, South Dakota, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Troy, UT Martin, Western Illinois and Wright State.
Samford enters the competition after participating in the highly-competitive Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate two weeks ago.
In the most prestigious collegiate tournament of the 2011 fall season, Samford earned an 11th-place finish at the prominent Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Oct. 4. The Bulldogs tallied a three-round score of 894 at the Old Overton Club.
Samford finished ahead of Louisville by 20 strokes and completed the two-day event with a 54-hole score of 894 (309-283-302), which was just 18 strokes behind eighth-place Mississippi State.
Individually, Samford was led at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate by juniors Drew Aimone and Casey O'Toole. Aimone completed the tournament with a three-round score of 221 (75-70-76), while O'Toole followed closely at 222 (79-69-74). Aimone, the Bulldogs' native of Savannah, Ga., finished tied for 29th place in the individual standings. O'Toole placed 34th in the tournament.
Rounding out the scoring for Samford were Bill Nabors, Gabe Hyde and Zac Hughes. Nabors carded a 54-hole mark of 225 (78-69-78), while Hyde tallied a three-round total of 233 (82-77-74) and Hughes finished with a score of 237 (77-75-85).
