Oct. 23, 2011

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Samford University women's golf team will compete in its fourth tournament of the 2011 fall season this week as the Bulldogs are scheduled to square off against some of the top teams in the region at the Memphis Fall Invitational being hosted by the University of Memphis at the par-71, 6,150-yard Ridgeway Country Club.

The tournament was originally slated for a 13-team field, but with the late withdrawal of UTPA, the field is now set for 12 teams including: Samford, Austin Peay, Boise State, Butler, Central Arkansas, Memphis, Montana, Rollins (Fla.), Sam Houston State, Texas A&M-CC, UAB and Xavier.

The two-day, 54-hole event is slated for 36 holes Monday and the final 18 Tuesday, with a shotgun start beginning at 8:15 a.m. (CDT) on both days.

Samford's talented 2011-12 roster is comprised one senior, two juniors, two sophomores and a pair of true freshmen. The Bulldogs will be led this season by senior Sarah Butts as well as juniors Anna Heim and Kayla Turner. Samford's sophomore class consists of Alex Jasper and Natalie Mitchell, while the Bulldogs' highly-touted true freshmen are Bailey Gray and Emily Stallings.

The event is free and open to the public. Samford fans can also follow all the live action by logging on to www.Golfstat.com.
