Truss Named SoCon Special Teams Player Of The Week

Oct. 31, 2011

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford sophomore running back Fabian Truss was named the Southern Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week when the league released its weekly football awards on Monday.

Truss' kickoff return helped ignite the Bulldogs en route to a 52-24 win over Western Carolina Saturday afternoon. After the Catamounts had scored to cut the Samford lead to 21-17 midway through the second quarter, Truss returned the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown as the Bulldogs scored 24 unanswered points to cruise to the win. It was the first time a Samford player returned a kickoff for a touchdown since 2007.

This marks the second time in the last three weeks that Truss has been honored by the SoCon. On Oct. 17, Truss was named the Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in a win over Elon.

Truss and the Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 5, when they play host to Chattanooga. The game, which will be televised live in the Birmingham area on ABC 33/40, will kickoff at 11 a.m. from Seibert Stadium.
