BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford women's basketball program has signed Rebecca Webster to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Mike Morris announced on Tuesday.
"We're definitely excited about Rebecca being a part of our basketball family," Morris said. "She is an outstanding player and we are very fortunate to have her. She has the ability to play the P and the four, and can score around the goal. She has good size, and she can really shoot the ball and is a good passer as well. We think she will be a great addition to our team."
As a junior at Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Ga., the 6-0 forward averaged 13.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. She led the Lady Red Elephants to a second-place finish in Region 8-AAA South.
Webster was named first-team All-Area and All-Region last year. She was also named her team's captain and Most Valuable Player. As a freshman, Webster was named her team's Rookie of the Year, and she was voted Most Improved Player as a sophomore.
Webster is also an excellent student, posting a 3.95 grade-point average. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club, and she serves as a worship leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).
Webster is the third and final signee for Samford in the early signing period. She joins Lydia McGee and Ashli Mayes as the Bulldogs' early signees.
"We have filled some big needs for our program with these three signees," Morris said. "We will still look to sign another guard or two in the late signing period."
