Game Notes--Western Carolina Game
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford women's basketball team will return to Southern Conference play with a home game against Western Carolina Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Samford enters the game with a record of 5-4 overall and 0-2 in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs are coming off a 61-55 non-conference win over Tennessee Tech on Dec. 10.
The Bulldogs are led in scoring by senior guard Paige Anderson, who was named the SoCon's Player of the Week for the second time this season earlier this week. Anderson is averaging 11.7 points per game for Samford.
Junior forward Hannah Dawson leads Samford in rebounding, pulling down 4.3 boards per contest. Senior guard Ruth Ketcham is averaging 4.2 rebounds per game.
Senior guard Jazmine Powers is the team leader in assists, dishing out 3.8 assists per game. Ketcham averages 2.1 assists per game so far this season.
Western Carolina is currently 4-5 overall and 0-2 in league play. The Catamounts are coming off an 82-46 loss to Appalachian State on Dec. 5.
Western Carolina is led in scoring by Kaila'She Menendez, averaging 9.9 points per game. Rena Wakama is scoring 9.1 points per game for the Catamounts.
WCU's leading rebounder is Caitlin Hollifield, pulling down 5.3 boards per contest. Alex Abraham is averaging 4.8 rebounds per game.
Wakama is the team leader in assists, dishing out 1.9 assists per game. Ali Lane is averaging 1.7 assists per contest.
Samford and Western Carolina will be meeting for the ninth time, with the Bulldogs holding a 6-2 advantage in the series. The teams last met in the quarterfinals of the 2011 SoCon Tournament, with Samford coming away with a 57-48 win. Samford has a record of 2-1 against the Catamounts in the Pete Hanna Center.
