BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford baseball team will travel to Oxford, Miss., to take on the Ole Miss Rebels Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Swayze Field.
The Bulldogs enter the week with a record of 15-7. Samford won two-of-three games against Georgia Southern over the weekend. Samford won games one and two, 5-4 and 9-2, before falling in game three, 9-2.
Samford is led at the plate by Phillip Ervin, batting .403 (27-of-67) with five doubles and seven RBI. Michael Johnson is batting .395 (32-of-81) with two doubles, two triples and 12 RBI. Saxon Butler leads the team in RBI with 24, while Brandon Miller is the team leader in home runs with five.
Samford is scheduled to start Joshua VanFleteren (2-1, 3.71 ERA) on the mound Tuesday evening. Ole Miss plans to start Matt Tracy (2-1, 4.15 ERA) against the Bulldogs.
The Rebels currently have a record of 15-6 this season. Ole Miss dropped two-of-three games to Alabama over the weekend. The Rebels won the first game, 4-0, before falling in the final two games by scores of 7-5 and 6-4.
Ole Miss is led at the plate by Matt Tracy, batting .327 (18-of-55) with two home runs and 12 RBI. Blake Nemalu is batting .317 (19-of-60) with two RBI. Tanner Mathis is batting .316 (25-of-79) with a team-high 16 RBI.
Samford and Ole Miss have met seven previous times, with the Rebels holding a 4-3 advantage in the series. The teams last met in 2006, with the two teams splitting a midweek series. Ole Miss won the first game, 11-4, but Samford came back to win game two, 3-2, in Oxford, Miss.
