STATESBORO, Ga. ---- The Samford softball team will take on UNC Greensboro Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. CT in the second round of the Southern Conference Tournament.
The Bulldogs shocked the No. 2 seed Appalachian State Wednesday in a 6-3 upset while the Spartans upset the No. 3 seed and host team Georgia Southern in a 2-0 shutout.
Samford trails the Spartans, 6-3, in the all-time series after being swept in the regular-season series April 30-May 1. The Bulldogs and Spartans have never met before in the Southern Conference Tournament.
Samford is led at the plate by Robyn Harmon who holds a .306 batting average. She boasts a team-high 38 hits and is second on the team in runs scored (19) and RBI (21). She also leads in slugging with a .508 average, boasting six doubles, two triples, five home runs and a team-high 63 total bases.
Nicole Bobrowski follows Harmon boasting a .288 batting average, 23 hits, 36 total bases, 13 RBI, four doubles and three home runs. She also is the Bulldogs' top pitcher now with a 4.22 ERA. Bobrowski notched her fourth win of the season after leading the Bulldogs' to a 6-3 win over Appalachian State Wednesday.
Alex Emeterio leads the Spartans with a .346 average. She boasts a team-high 56 hits and is second on the team with 21 RBI. Emeterio and Kaitlin Merkt are the only two players for UNCG who have played and started in all 55 games for the Spartans. Merkt followed Emeterio in hitting with a .340 batting average. She also leads the team in runs with 31 and is second on the teams in hits with 53. She also leads in RBI with 39.
Cory Mattson leads all Spartan pitchers with a 4.25 ERA. She boasts a 13-13 record and has pitched 18 complete games including three shutouts. She leads UNCG with 100 strikeouts in 181 innings of work.
