BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Samford freshman Nicole Bobrowski has been named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team. The league office released the softball All-Conference and postseason awards Monday morning. Balloting was conducted by the league's nine softball coaches.
"This is a huge honor for Nicole," Samford head coach Stephanie VanBrakle said. "She deserves this and has put in the work to achieve such an honor. We are very proud of her."
The right-handed pitcher from Madison, Ala., was one of ten freshmen selected to the All-Freshman Team. Bobrowski was the top freshman hitter for the Bulldogs and ranked third overall on the team with a .295 batting average in her freshman season. She posted three home runs and four doubles on 23 hits for the season and drove in 13 runs while scoring eight.
She was also Samford's second-best pitcher, posting an ERA of 4.42 and a record of 3-10. She started 12 games and made 20 appearances, pitching seven complete games including one shutout. She also posted 28 strikeouts in 88.2 innings.
Chattanooga is the regular-season champion and earned five first team selections, two second team selections, an All-Freshman team honoree and two individual awards.
All nine teams will meet up in Statesboro, Ga., Wednesday for the Southern Conference Tournament. Samford clinched the seventh seed with a Furman loss today to Appalachian State. The Bulldogs will take on the second-seeded Mountaineers Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT in the first round of tournament play.
