EATONTON, Ga. -
Samford women's golfer Sarah Butts carded a third-round score of 73 at The Golf Club at Cuscowilla this week to hold off Auburn's Caitlin Watts for the championship title of the 2011 Georgia Women's Amateur.
Butts, the Bulldogs' senior-to-be from Carrollton, Ga., finished the 54-hole tournament with a score of 223 (74-76-73). Watts, who will be a sophomore at Auburn in the fall, concluded the three-round tournament with a final mark of 224 (77-73-74).
Butts is coming off a stellar junior campaign in which she competed in 10 tournaments for the Bulldogs. She ended last year with a team-best stroke average of 77.9 and turned in a fourth-place finish at the 2011 Western Carolina Low Country Intercollegiate.
