BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Members of the Samford football team and cheerleading squad assisted the school's newest freshmen as they moved into their dorms for the first time Friday morning on the Samford campus.
Lauren Taylor, Samford's director of residence life, said the student-athletes were a tremendous help in getting all of the new students moved into their dorms.
"Move-in Day would not be a success without the help of our Samford athletic teams, especially the football team and cheerleaders," Taylor said. "The football players and cheerleaders have been out here helping us get people settled into their rooms as soon as possible."
Junior place-kicker Cameron Yaw was helping with Move-In Day for the third year in a row. Yaw said the players enjoy coming out and meeting the new students.
"This year has gone smoother than it ever has in the past," Yaw said. "It's a good opportunity for everyone to meet each other and for everyone to feel welcome at Samford University."
This is the fourth year in a row that Samford student-athletes have assisted freshmen as they moved on campus for the first time.
Samford football opens its season on Saturday, Sept. 3, when the Bulldogs play host to fourth-ranked Georgia Southern at 6 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.
