Football Wraps Up Preparation For No. 8 Wofford

Sept. 22, 2011

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about an hour in shorts and helmets Thursday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The workout was the team's final full practice in preparation for Saturday evening's game at No. 8 Wofford.

Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said the Bulldogs have put in a good week of practice. He described Thursday's workout as focused.

"I thought we had a really good, focused practice today," Sullivan said. "This kind of game will be an execution game, and I thought our guys were really focused on what they were doing. I've been pleased with really the entire week of practice. I'm looking forward to watching them play."

Saturday's game will be the first road game of the season for Samford, and the first-ever college road trip for the freshmen on the squad. Sullivan said, however, with the Bulldogs taking a bus instead of flying, there won't be as much for the freshmen to get used to on their first trip.

"It's their first time on the road," Sullivan said. "But one thing about this league compared to others is we are on a bus instead of flying. A lot of times freshmen haven't ever flown before and they worry about it for a while."

The Bulldogs will leave campus Friday morning at 9:45 a.m. The team will have a walk-through Friday afternoon at Wofford's Gibbs Stadium.

Saturday's game at Wofford is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (CT) kickoff from Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C. The game can be heard live on the Samford Sports Network, including Samford's on-campus station, WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
