The Samford women's basketball team will wrap up its three-game road swing with a Southern Conference game at Appalachian State Monday at 5 p.m. in ASU's Holmes Center.
Samford enters the game with a record of 11-7 overall and 6-3 in Southern Conference play, placing the Bulldogs fourth in the Southern Conference standings. Appalachian State is currently 13-3 overall and 7-1 in league play. The Mountaineers are currently in second place in the conference standings.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 73-65 win at Davidson on Saturday. The Mountaineers defeated Chattanooga, 62-51, also on Saturday.
In Samford's win at Davidson on Saturday, freshman forward Taylor Reece posted a career-high 21 points, with 14 of those points coming in the second half. Reece made 8-of-13 shots from the floor, including 3-of-3 from three-point range. For the season, Reece is tied for second on the team in scoring, with an average of 9.2 points per game.
Samford is led in scoring by senior guard Paige Anderson, averaging 13.4 points per game. Senior guard Ruth Ketcham is tied with Reece for second, averaging 9.2 points per game.
Ketcham and junior forward Hannah Dawson are tied for the team lead in rebounding, pulling down 3.9 boards per game each. Reece is third in rebounding, with an average of 3.4 rebounds per game.
Senior guard Jazmine Powers is the team leader in assists, dishing out 3.2 assists per game. Ketcham is second on the team in assists, averaging 2.4 assists per game.
Appalachian State is led in scoring by Anna Freeman, averaging 16.3 points per game. Courtney Freeman is averaging 12.9 points per game for the Mountaineers.
Kelsey Sharkey leads the Mountaineers in rebounding, pulling down 7.1 boards per contest. Anna Freeman is second in rebounding, with an average of 6.3 rebounds per game.
Chakeitha Weldon is the team leader in assists, dishing out 3.4 assists per game. Anna Freeman ranks second in assists, averaging 2.6 assists per game.
Samford and Appalachian State will be meeting for the ninth time, with Samford leading the series, 5-3. Last season, the teams met three times, with ASU winning two of the three meetings. ASU won both of the regular-season meetings, winning in Boone, N.C., 74-62, and in Birmingham, 61-53. The teams also met in the championship game of the SoCon Tournament, with Samford pulling out the 57-54 win to earn the tournament title.
Samford has a record of 2-1 in Boone, N.C., while the Bulldogs are 1-2 against ASU in Birmingham. Samford is 2-0 against ASU at neutral sites.
