BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford baseball program held its second-annual Kids Day Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
Despite cold temperatures, a large group of kids and their parents attended the event, which served as a preview of the upcoming 2012 baseball season.
"We are fortunate here to be in a great community," Samford head coach Casey Dunn said. "We do everything we can to try to make Samford a part of this Over the Mountain community, because we want to be as big of a part of it as we can."
At the event, Samford players assisted kids in hitting, pitching and defensive drills as well as playing catch in the outfield. Complimentary popcorn and Coca-Cola products were provided as well.
"Our players really enjoy these opportunities to work with young kids who enjoy baseball and are willing to come out here on a pretty chilly day to do something they enjoy," Dunn said. "We're excited to get people on our campus and to get them to meet our players."
The Samford Diamond Girls were also on hand with Samford face tattoos and fun giveaways.
Samford opens the 2012 season on Friday evening when the Bulldogs open a three-game series with Radford. The first pitch for Friday's season-opener is 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. For ticket information, contact the Samford ticket office at 205-726-DOGS.
