WBB To Play Final Road Game At WCU Monday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Samford women's basketball team will pay its final road game of the 2012 season when the Bulldogs play at Western Carolina Monday evening at 6 p.m. (CT).

Samford enters the game with a record of 16-9 overall and 11-5 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 42-40 win at Furman on Saturday. Following Monday night's game, Samford will play its final three regular-season games at home.

Western Carolina is currently 11-15 overall and 6-11 in league play. The Catamounts are coming off a 54-40 loss to Chattanooga on Saturday.

In Samford's win at Furman on Saturday, the Bulldogs were led by junior forward Hannah Dawson with 13 points and nine rebounds. Freshman forward Taylor Reece had 11 points, while senior guard Paige Anderson added six points for the Bulldogs.

For the season, Samford is led in scoring by Anderson, averaging 13.2 points per game. Behind Anderson for the Bulldogs in scoring are Reece (9.1 ppg.) and senior guard Ruth Ketcham (8.9 ppg.).

Dawson leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 4.8 boards per contest. Ketcham is second on the squad in rebounding, with an average of 4.2 rebounds per game.

Senior guard Jazmine Powers is the team leader in assists, dishing out 3.4 assists per game. Ketcham is also second on the team in assists, with an average of 2.4 assists per game.

Western Carolina is led in scoring by Kaila'Shea Menendez, averaging 12.1 points per game. Rena Wakama is second on the team in scoring, with an average of 7.3 points per game.

Alex Abraham leads WCU in rebounding, pulling down 4.4 rebounds per game. Caitlin Hollifield is second on the team in rebounding, averaging 4.2 rebounds per game.

Wakama leads Western Carolina in assists, dishing out 1.9 assists per game. Ali Lane is second on the squad in assists, averaging 1.7 assists per game.

Samford and Western Carolina will be meeting for the 10th time, with the Bulldogs holding a 7-2 advantage in the series. Earlier this season, the teams met in the Pete Hanna Center, with Samford winning, 64-61 in overtime.

The teams met three times last season, with Samford winning all three meetings. The last meeting of the season came in the quarterfinals of the 2011 SoCon Tournament, with Samford coming away with a 57-48 win.

Samford has a record of 3-0 in games played in Cullowhee, N.C. Samford is 3-1 against the Catamounts in the Pete Hanna Center, and the teams have split the two meetings that have been held at neutral sites.
