BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford baseball team will play host to Alabama A&M Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field, and the Bulldogs will then play at Jacksonville State Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at JSU's Rudy Abbott Field.
Samford enters the game with a record of 2-1 after winning two-of-three games against Radford over the weekend. Alabama A&M is also 2-1, winning two of its three games against Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne over the weekend. Jacksonville State is currently 0-1 after falling in its lone game at Northwestern State.
Samford was led over the weekend by senior first baseman Saxon Butler, batting .900 (9-for-10) with two doubles, two home runs and four RBI. Butler was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week on Monday.
Right fielder Brandon Miller also had a big weekend, hitting two home runs and driving in six runs. Shortstop Austin Allison batted .600 (6-for-10) with a double, a home run and two RBI. Second baseman Zeth Stone, in his Samford debut, batted .455 (5-for-11) with two doubles and four RBI.
Samford is scheduled to start freshman Cole Limbaugh on the mound on Tuesday. The outing will mark Limbaugh's first start at Samford. The Bulldogs have yet to name a starter for Wednesday's game at Jacksonville State.
Alabama A&M was led by Norbert Riggins, batting .375 (3-for-8) with two doubles in its series against Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. A&M has not named a starting pitcher for Tuesday night's game.
Jacksonville State, in its season-opener against Northwestern State, was led by Andrew Bishop and Coty Blanchard with one hit each. JSU is scheduled to start senior left-hander Daniel Watts on the mound in Wednesday afternoon's game.
