Baseball To Host Auburn Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will play host to the Auburn Tigers Tuesday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The first pitch for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs enter Tuesday night's game with a record of 16-8 overall and 7-2 in the SoCon. Samford won two-of-three games at Wofford over the weekend. The Bulldogs defeated the Terriers by scores of 5-0, 11-10 and 11-4.

Samford is led offensively by Saxon Butler, batting .389 with four home runs and 21 RBI. C.K. Irby is batting .361 and Phillip Ervin has a .351 average. Brandon Miller leads the team in home runs with 10 and in RBI with 33.

Samford is scheduled to start left-handed senior Joseph Burns on the mound Tuesday evening. Burns enters the game with a record of 1-0 and a 0.00 ERA.

The Tigers enter the game with a record of 15-9 overall and 4-2 in SEC play. Auburn won two-of-three games from LSU over the weekend.

Auburn is led at the plate by Ryan Tella, batting .438 with a home run and 16 RBI. Creede Simpson is batting .383 with nine doubles and 16 RBI.

Auburn has listed right-handed senior Jon Luke Jacobs as its starting pitcher for Tuesday night's contest. Jacobs enters the game with a record of 4-0 and an ERA of 0.96.

Samford and Auburn have met 70 previous times, with Auburn holding a 54-16 advantage in the series. Last season, Samford won both meetings with the Tigers, winning, 8-0 in Auburn and by a score of 9-8, in Birmingham. Under head coach Casey Dunn, Samford is 7-8 against Auburn.
