Six Compete at Alabama High Tide Qualifier

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Samford track wrapped up its last weekend in Birmingham for the indoor season at the Alabama High Tide Qualifier on Saturday. Six Bulldogs competed, looking to improve their national standings heading into the NCAA Championships, while three others competed unattached.

2012 SoCon Champion Kyle Kirby won the men's weight throw Saturday, hitting a mark of 63-11.25 (19.49m) with Thomas Oliver following him in second place (51-4.5, 15.66m). Ramsey White won the men's mile with a mark of 4:25.17. Claire Goodson finished third in the women's pole vault (13-3, 4.04m), just shy of her personal-best height of 13-3.5 (4.05m). Cavan Corcoran finished sixth in both the preliminary (8.34) and final heats (8.45) of the men's 60-meter hurdles.

Competing unattached for Samford was Lauren D'Alessio in the women's mile (2nd - 4:47.07), Ben Davies in the men's weight throw (3rd - 40-3.75, 12.29m) and the 60-meter hurdles (6th - 8.37 prelims, 7th - 8.51 finals) and Brandon Bassett in the 60-meter hurdles (9th - 8.61 prelims).

The NCAA will finalize the list of participants early next week for the NCAA Indoor Championships, taking place in Nampa, Id., over two days starting on Friday, March 9. Samford is set to open its outdoor season on Saturday, March 10 as it will send competitors to the Birmingham Southern Invitational.
