Men's Pole Vault Results
NAMPA, Id. ---- Samford senior Michael Seaman competed at the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday, placing sixth in the men's pole vault, clearing 17-8.5 (5.40m). His finish should earn him first team All-America honors, though the official list of All-Americans will be released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) early next week.
"I couldn't have been more proud of Michael today," said Head Coach Rod Tiffin. "He didn't have his best day on the runway but he kept battling and had the best finish of any Samford individual ever. He knows that he can jump with anybody in the country. He can't wait until the outdoor season and trying to win an outdoor national title."
This is the Bardstown, Ky., native's highest finish at the national meet, as he placed 16th at the 2011 outdoor meet. Seaman is a four-time conference champion in the pole vault, having most recently won the 2012 indoor title with a school and conference meet record height of 17-10.5 (5.45m). He also was the first Bulldog to ever compete at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships, placing 10th in this season's meet as the only collegiate competitor in the entire field.
Samford opens its outdoor season this weekend, competing at the Birmingham Southern Invitational on Saturday, March 10.
