Baseball To Host In-State Rival Troy Tuesday Evening

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford baseball team will play host to in-state rival Troy Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a record of 29-16 overall and 16-8 in SoCon play. Samford swept a three-game series at Davidson over the weekend. The Bulldogs defeated the Wildcats by scores of 16-6, 5-3 and 15-6.

Samford is led at the plate by Saxon Butler, batting .356 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI. Brad Moss is batting .340 for the Bulldogs. Brandon Miller leads Samford and the SoCon and is among the national leaders in home runs with 17, and he leads the team and ranks second in the SoCon in RBI with 48.

Samford has listed Andres Gracia as its starting pitcher. Gracia, a freshman right-hander, enters the game with a record of 1-0 and a 3.77 ERA.

The Trojans are currently 20-24 overall and 8-13 in the Sun Belt Conference. Troy won two-of-three games from Florida Atlantic over the weekend.

Troy is led at the plate by Logan Pierce, batting .387 with five home runs and 39 RBI. Boone Shear and Danny Collins share the team lead in homers with eight, while Shear is the team leader in RBI with 43.

The Trojans are scheduled to start Cass Abercrombie on the mound in Tuesday night's contest. Abercrombie enters the game with a record of 1-2 and a 4.80 ERA.

Samford and Troy met earlier this season in Troy, with the Trojans coming away with a 13-6 win. Last season, the teams split the two meetings, with each team winning at home.

At Tuesday night's game, Samford athletics, along with the Panhellenic Council and Sigma Nu and Sigma Chi fraternities, will be hosting the annual Crawfish Boil. The event, which is open to all Samford students, will be held in the Hanna Center parking lot, and will last from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
