BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Bulldog track and field team began action at the Samford Multi and Invitational Friday, competing in the hammer throw and long jump and the first half of the decathlon.
Emily Allen improved on her school record in the women's hammer throw yet again, winning Friday's competition with a distance of 182-8 (55.67m). In the women's long jump, Macy Conger led the field with a mark of 18-7.75 (5.68m) while Christian McGuire finished second (17-11.75, 5.48m). In the men's event, Donald Cooper placed second (21-0, 6.40m) with Bob Elliot II close behind in third (19-7, 5.97m).
Through half of the decathlon events, Josh Davies is currently sitting in second (3,328) with Cody Russell in third (3,271) and Brad Bostic in fifth (2,547). Competing unattached for the Bulldogs, Brandon Bassett is in fourth (2.774), Kyle Kirby is in sixth (2,453) and Ben Davies is in seventh (2,158).
Events continue tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m. with the men's and women's javelin.
