BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – – The Samford athletics department and America's First Federal Credit Union held a seminar for freshman student-athletes on financial planning Thursday morning in the Pete Hanna Center.
Kendall Williams, the community liaison at America's First, spoke to the student-athletes about planning for their financial future.
“The goal is for the students to hear good financial tips as early as possible,” Williams said. “I know they aren't going to go out and plan a budget today, but hopefully when they do have to start planning, what they've heard here today will help them.”
Williams gave the student-athletes budgeting tips. She talked to them about managing their money, reaching goals and avoiding debt. She also spoke about keeping an expenses worksheet, comparing needs versus wants and about living within their income.
The event was organized by Bo Kerr, Samford Associate Director of Athletics for Corporate Partnerships and Chris Scott, Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Services.
