SOFTBALL TO PLAY ALABAMA STATE IN MIDWEEK MATCHUP

Samford Softball will head to Montgomery, Ala., Tuesday, March 12 for a midweek matchup against the Alabama State Hornets at 5 p.m. CT.

OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT
Alabama State (1-20) - The Hornets have struggled out of the gate in 2013, owning a 1-20 record.  Their lone win came in a Feb. 17 contest against Eastern Illinois, which they won 5-0.  Since, they have lost their past 11-straight, including a 29-0 drubbing by South Carolina.  Senior Brehanna Rodrigues is their leader at the plate, batting .424 with 25 hits including two doubles and a triple with four RBI.  Junior Meagan Dixon is their RBI leader with seven, batting .375 with 24 hits including the team's only home run of the season.  The pitching staff has struggled to limit opposing offenses as they hold a team ERA of 9.05 with 126 earned runs over 125.1 innings.  Senior Bailey Patt (0-8) is their innings leader at 53.1 with a 6.58 ERA.

ALL-TIME VERSUS ALABAMA STATE
Samford is undefeated in 14 contests against Alabama State.  The Bulldogs have defeated the Hornets by an average of eight runs over those contests.  Last season under Head Coach Mandy Burford, Samford defeated Alabama State 7-3 in the first game at their new ballpark, the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.

NO-HITTER HISTORY
Mollie Hanson's no-hitter Sunday against UNCG is the first Samford no-hitter since April 21, 2006.  In that game, the Bulldogs defeated SEMO 1-0 with Samford's Stephanie Royall throwing 5.2 innings with no hits and three walks.  The game was called in the bottom of the sixth with two outs.

SELECT SOCON COMPANY
Mollie Hanson's no-hitter is only the second no-hit performance in the SoCon so far this season.  Georgia Southern's Sarah Purvis, the preseason SoCon Pitcher of the Year, threw a perfect game in a 1-0 victory over Southern Illinois on Feb. 15.

BULLDOGS FALL IN SATURDAY DOUBLE-HEADER, BOUNCE BACK FOR BIG SUNDAY WIN
Samford went 1-2 in its opening conference weekend at UNCG, struggling in a Saturday double-header but bouncing back for a big 5-0 win on Sunday to avoid the sweep.

The Spartans won two games Saturday, shutting out the Bulldogs 4-0 in game one and winning 9-1 in six innings in game two.  UNCG's Raeanne Hanks pitched 10.0 innings between the two games, frustrating the Bulldog offense while a potent UNCG offense capitalized on numerous Samford mistakes in the field.

A completely different Samford team showed up Sunday for game three, as the Bulldog offense put up five runs off nine hits with Mollie Hanson throwing a no-hitter in the circle.  Casey Clark hit her first career Samford home run, a two-run bomb in the second, while Callie Brister hit her second of the year with a solo shot in the fifth.  A UNCG offense that had frustrated the Bulldogs all day Saturday could only get three runners on base with eight strikeouts, which is more strikeouts than the first two games combined.
