Samford Set To Host Alabama State Tuesday

The Samford University softball team (19-5) returns home to Samford Field for a midweek contest against Alabama State University on Tuesday, March 11, at 6 p.m.

QUICK HITTERS
The Bulldogs and the Hornets meet for the 16th time all-time between the two programs; SU holds a perfect 15-0 record against ASU in the all-time series. The last time these two school squared off, the Bulldogs took a 3-0 victory over the Hornets on March 12, 2013 in Montgomery, Ala.

In the series between SU and ASU a total of 156 runs have been scored with Samford scoring 135 to Alabama State's 21 runs.

SU continues to blow past 2013 season marks and break down old program records with its remarkable season. The Bulldogs have surpassed its 2013 season run total (135)  and now have scored a total of 156 runs through just 24 games. The Bulldogs have also eclipsed the 2013 mark for stolen bases (24) and now are 36 of 39 so far this season.

Samford tied the single-season home run record set back in 2003 and tied previously in 2011 with two home runs this past weekend against Gardner-Webb University. Junior Abby Adams leads the team with nine home runs on the season and is one away from tying the individual single-season record for home runs.

The Samford offense continues to roll along as the team ranks in the top three of nearly every major SoCon statistical hitting category: second in batting average (.306), second in slugging percentage (.498), third in on base percentage (.377), second in doubles (32) and rank first in runs (156), hits(202), RBIs (146) and home runs (31).

Sophomore Megan Dowdy leads the Southern Conference with 33 hits on the season and also has the top mark in the stolen bases category with 13 swipes out of 14 attempts.  Dowdy also ranks fourth in the conference in batting average (.393).
