Softball Extends Winning Streak With Pair Of Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Conway, S.C. – The Samford University softball team (17-4) capped off the final day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational with a pair of wins. The Bulldogs defeated Saint Peter's University 17-1 in the early game and picked up a 1-0 victory over the host team Coastal Carolina University.

GAME 1: Samford 17, Saint Peter's 1
Samford's offense wasted no time in putting runs on the board against the Peacocks as the Bulldogs batted around the lineup in the bottom of the first inning to take a 9-0 lead. Freshman Abby Sweeney highlighted the inning with her first career grand slam.

The Bulldogs only managed to plate one run in the bottom of the second to extend its lead out to 10-0. Megan Dowdy singled to score Madison Dickey from third base.

SU crossed seven more runs in the bottom of the third frame to take a 17-0 lead. Shelby Scott highlighted the inning this time as she smacked a three-run home run over the center field wall.

Freshman pitcher Grey Adams (5-0) picked up the win in the circle as she tossed a four-hit complete game with six strike outs and only one walk allowed.

Dowdy led the way at the plate going 3 for 3 with three runs scored and 3 RBIs. Abby Adams was also a perfect 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Scott and Sweeney both were 1 for 2 at the plate with 4 RBIs and two runs scored.

Freshman Abbie Miranda went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored; Mollie Hanson scratched a double going 1 for 1 at the plate.

GAME 2: Samford 1, Coastal Carolina 0
The matchup between the Bulldogs and the Chanticleers was much different than what Samford experienced in the game earlier against Saint Peter's, both teams only combined for seven hits and one run; the one run ended up on being on SU's side of the scoreboard.

The Bulldogs plated that winning run in the top of the first inning on a Caitlin Bice RBI single that scored Megan Dowdy.

From then on each pitcher settled into a groove and limited both offenses to just a few hits in the game.

Junior Mollie Hanson (8-3) pitched a brilliant game and secured her first complete game shutout of the season, the second shutout for the Bulldogs on the year, as she dealt out nine strikeouts without issuing a walk through seven innings pitched.

CCU's pitcher K. Quolas (6-3) pitched a complete game as well and limited the Bulldogs offense to just three hits and recorded six strikeouts.

Caitline Bice, Megan Dowdy and Caroline Seay each went 1 for 3 at the plate in the contest.
