SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford softball team is coming off a weekend where it hosted Western Carolina for a three-game series. The Bulldogs had two outstanding pitching performances from Makinley Turner, which earned her Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week honors when the conference office released their awards this afternoon.

Turner appeared for the first time this week in game one of the series against the Catamounts. She threw four innings in relief, allowing no runs, two hits, and striking out two WCU batters. The Samford junior got the start in game three of the series and delivered one of her best outings of the year as she threw her fourth complete game shutout. Turner allowed just one hit, while striking out eight opposing batters as the Bulldogs went on to capture the 3-0 victory to close the series.

The Bulldogs sit at 18-26 overall on the season and are 8-4 in SoCon play which has them in a tie for second place in the league. The Bulldogs stay at home to host Alabama on Tuesday night. The Crimson Tide are the No. 2 team in the country and defeated Samford 8-1 earlier this season. Samford then returns to SoCon play as they travel to face Furman for the three-game series next weekend.
