GAME NOTES: Appalachian State (03.29-30.14)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University softball team takes on Appalachian State University in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on March 29, at Samford Field with first-pitch slated for 1 p.m. then will wrap up the series on Sunday, March 30, at 1 p.m.
QUICK HITTERSSamford enters the contest with an overall 5-13 record against the Mountaineers from Boone, N.C. with its last victory coming on April 29, 2012 when the Bulldogs scratched out a 5-4 victory over the Apps in Birmingham; that was also the last time SU took a series from the Apps 2-1.
The last time the Bulldogs and the Mountaineers met was on May 8, in the Southern Conference Tournament where the Apps gave Samford its first loss of the tournament which resulted in a 3-2 decision.
Samford broke two more records heading into this weekend's contest against Appalachian State. The Bulldogs eclipsed the single-season runs scored (209) and RBI (185) marks both set in 2008; SU now has 218 runs scored and 204 RBIs on the season.
Sophomore
Callie Brister has been on fire as of late as in the last week she has went 10 of 18 (.556)from the plate with six RBIs, eight runs scored and two walks with a .611 slugging percentage.
Junior
Shelby Scott and sophomore
Caitlin Bice have come on strong at the plate for the Bulldogs over the last six games. Scott and Bice have recorded 10 RBIs and two home runs apiece. Junior
Abby Adams and Freshman Abby Miranda have each recorded three doubles each over the that span as well.
ON DECKThe Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, April 3, when the team travels to Jacksonville, Ala. to take on Jacksonville State University in a single contest which is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
