BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University softball team is set to travel to Tennessee State University for a midweek double header on Wednesday, April 9, with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
The Bulldogs (28-12) enter the matchup after dropping a series 1-2 to Southern Conference opponent Western Carolina University. The Tigers (16-25) are coming off of a pair of wins against Southeast Missouri State University.
Samford holds a commanding 12-4 overall record against Tennessee State with SU taking the last matchup between the two 12-3 in a six inning affair back in 2008.
SU is only four wins away from eclipsing yet another single-season record as the team makes the push to capture the single season win record which is currently set at 31. The previous record of 31 was set back in 2007 when the team went 31-23 under then head coach Beanie Ketcham.
Sophomore
Megan Dowdy looks to make her mark in the single-season record book as her 17 stolen bases this season ranks sixth with Jessica Owens as the leader with 20 stolen bases back in 2008.
Junior
Mollie Hanson also is on the record hunt as her 16 wins is just three shy of the single-season record set by Stephanie Royall back in 2007.
Junior
Abby Adams isn't done with her record quest either, she already holds the single-season home run record with 12 and the runs scored record with 37 but looks to surpass and become the single-season record holder in the RBI category. Adams currently sits at 33 RBIs on the season which is nine shy of the record set by Amanada Barrs back in 2008.
