BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University volleyball team wrapped up the 2015 home schedule with a hard fought 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-20) victory over The Citadel on Sunday, Nov. 8, inside the Pete Hanna Center.
The Bulldogs (13-11, 8-6 SoCon) were led by the trio of
Kiahna Wicks,
Erin Bognar and
Krista Boesing as each tallied 12 kills to lead the team over The Citadel (7-25, 0-14 SoCon). The team etched a .376 attack percentage thanks to the efforts from Wicks (.556), Bognar (.308) and Boesing (.423).
Bognar finished the match with a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs while sophomore libero
Morgan St. Germain paced the team yet again defensively with 15 digs.
Samford opened the match a little sluggish on the offensive side as the team recorded a .184 attack percentage that include a total of seven attack errors which allowed The Citadel to remain close thanks to a balanced attack from Moriah Smith (4 kills) along with Zuri Fenderson, Bailey Kernodle and Dominique Williams who each put down three kills in the set.
The Bulldogs eventually took the set 25-23 on a service error by Megan Sowell.
The offense kicked into high gear in the second set of play as the team improved their attack percentage to .485 as Bognar and Wicks each tallied five kills while the team only committed three attack errors. The Bulldogs fought through 12 ties and three lead changes to take the set 25-21 to go ahead 2-0 over The Citadel heading into the intermission.
For the third set of action it was all
Krista Boesing as the freshman tallied seven kills (.636) on 11 attacks with no errors to lead Samford to a 25-20 victory in the set to complete the sweep. Bognar also went errorless in the set with four kills (.571) on seven attacks.
Samford hits the road for the final weekend of the regular season as the team travels to take on Western Carolina and ETSU.
