BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University softball team recorded its second shutout of the season after a 9-0 victory over Gardner-Webb University in five innings on Sunday, Feb. 15, in the final game of the Samford Classic at the Samford Softball Field.

Grey Adams tossed her second combined shutout of the year with a complete-game shutout of the Runnin' Bulldogs (1-7). Adams threw five innings with three strikeouts and one walk while also only allowing three GWU hits on the day.

The Bulldogs extended its lead in the second after the team strung together seven hits to plate six runs and take a 7-0 lead. Dowdy, freshman

Abby Sweeney each tallied an RBI in the inning to stretch the lead.
Bice emerged yet again as the big-bat in the Bulldogs lineup as she belted her fourth home run of the weekend with a two-run line-shot over the wall in right center field to cap the scoring at 9-0 in favor of Samford. Bice ended the contest 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and three RBI in the contest.
From the leadoff position Dowdy was a solid 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI while Wilder finish 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored to add to her RBI in the second.
Samford will take the field again on Friday, Feb. 20, when the team hosts the Samford Tournament and welcomes Valparaiso, Alabama State and Houston Baptist to the Samford Softball Field. The Bulldogs will open play against Valparaiso on Friday at 1:15 p.m.
