SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Samford's
Fares Kilani was named the Southern Conference's Men's Tennis Player of the Week Tuesday after the Bulldogs' junior netter registered a perfect 4-0 record in dual-match play last week. The honor was awarded by the SoCon league office for all matches played Feb. 23 through March 1.
Kilani compiled an unblemished record last week as the Bulldogs reeled off a pair of victories against Northern Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky. Kilani, the Bulldogs' speedy native of Tunis, Tunisia, tallied a 2-0 record at the No. 1 position in singles play, as well as an unblemished 2-0 mark in doubles.
In doubles play, Kilani teamed with true freshman
Eduardo Lourido Sanchez and notched one of the team's biggest victories of the week against Eastern Kentucky as they clinched the doubles point with a thrilling 7-6 (7) win over the Colonels' tandem of Diego Asis and Sebastian Mueller.
Other top performers in the SoCon last week included Chattanooga's John Peacy and Wofford's Rob Galloway.
The Samford University men's tennis team will next be in action Wednesday at 2 p.m. (CST) as the Bulldogs welcome the Stetson Hatters to the Samford Tennis Center for a key non-conference showdown.
