By The Set
Set 1 | W, Samford 26-24 The Bulldogs found themselves in a hole down 19-9 in the initial set of the match – it was lead that seemed to be insurmountable. That however was not the case as Samford showed resilience and chipped away at the Chattanooga lead until the team deadlocked the score 23-23. From there the Bulldogs only had to fend off one set point down 24-23 which the team then ripped off three-straight points to take the set.
During the comeback the Samford defense limited the Chattanooga offense to only a pair of points.
Set 2 | W, Samford 25-13 The momentum that Samford had gained in the initial set carried over as the Bulldogs posted a .282 attack percentage with only a pair of errors. In contrast, the Mocs struggled to find an offense as they in turn posted their worst offensive outing of the match with a .083 attack average that included six attack errors and only nine sideouts in 25 opportunities.
Set 3 | W, Samford 25-19 After the intermission it was a battle of wills as Samford looked to maintain the momentum it had gained in the previous two sets while Chattanooga was looking for the spark that gave it a 19-9 advantage over the Bulldogs in the first set of play.
The result of the struggle translated into eight ties and a pair of lead changes throughout the set. The turning point came when the Bulldogs took a two point lead thanks to an offensive miscue by the Mocs and a monster kill by freshman Kelsey Hobbs from the right side to make the score 15-13. The two points was all the separation Samford needed to take the match.
