BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University volleyball team swept The Citadel in straight sets to complete the two game Southern Conference home stand on Saturday, Oct. 8, inside the Pete Hanna Center.
The Bulldogs (12-8, 3-2 SoCon) improved to 8-2 at home inside the Pete Hanna Center with the 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-15) win over The Citadel (6-14, 0-5 SoCon). It also brings Samford's 2016 home SoCon record to 3-1.

Samford remains unbeaten against The Citadel and improves its record to 11-0 over the team from Charleston, South Carolina. It was also head coach
Keylor Chan's first win at Samford over The Citadel.
By The Set
Set 1 | W, Samford (26-24) It wasn't easy for the Bulldogs to start the match against The Citadel as the team played from behind the majority of the match. Almost midway through the set The Citadel led by as much as 11-4. Samford mounted a 6-1 run to close down The Citadel's lead to 12-10 and stayed within striking distance until it took the lead 24-23 on a
Grace Tiesman service ace.
Erin Bognar put the set away with a strong kill from the left side.
Set 2 | W, Samford (25-22) The Bulldogs offense continued to gradually improve in the second set of the match as the team limited unforced errors and struck a match high 14 kills on a .235 attack percentage. However, The Citadel fought back to force a total of 11 ties but only managed to jump out ahead and lead once in the set which was early on 3-2.
Kate Neisler led the offensive attack for the Bulldogs as she posted five kills on 10 swings with no errors.
Set 3 | W, Samford (25-15) It was All Samford in the final set of the day as the team was able to post its highest attack percentage of the match at .323. Neisler led the team again in the set with another five kill performance and was complimented by Bognar's four kills. Tough servicing was a key factor in the set as well as the Bulldogs tallied a total of five service aces in the final set alone.
Key Notes
- Sophomore setter
Taylor Anderton posted her first double-double of the season with 15 assists and 14 digs.
- Neisler and Bognar were the only two players on the court today to record double-digit kills. Neisler finished with 14 kills (.326) while Bognar notched 10 kills (.036).
- The duo of Anderton and senior
Erika Pifer combined for 31 of the team's 38 total assists. Pifer led the team with 17 assists on the day.
- As a team Samford averaged 3.0 blocks per set for a total of nine team blocks which consisted of one solo block by Neisler and 16 block assists.
