SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Samford junior
Demetrius Denzel-Dyson was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week Tuesday for his performance during all games played Nov. 22-28, the league office announced. He averaged 22.7 points and 7.0 rebound per outing and shot 54.5-percent (12-of-22) from 3-point range in games against Cincinnati, Nicholls State and Bethune-Cookman.

Denzel-Dyson also led the team with a brilliant 61-percent shooting mark from the field. On Sunday, in a home matchup against Nicholls State, he scored a career-high 40 points on 15-of-20 shooting from the field. His 40 points proved to be the most scored by a SoCon player this season as he played 44 of the team's 50 minutes and added two assists and a pair of steals.

A 6-foot-5 shooting guard, Denzel-Dyson also posted a double-double against Nicholls State with 11 rebounds and shot a brilliant 7-of-11 from 3-point range.

Denzel-Dyson scored in double figures in all three games last week by tallying a team-high 14 points at Cincinnati and 14 points at home against Bethune-Cookman. The Bulldogs' native of Covington, Tennessee, also pulled down at least five rebounds in every game last week from his guard position.

Already this season, Denzel-Dyson ranks fourth in the league in made 3-pointers per game (3.2) and is fifth in 3-point percentage (.514). Denzel-Dyson has averaged 18.0 points per game through six contests, the fifth-highest average in the league to date.

Samford has earned back-to-back SoCon Player of the Week awards. Last week, the Bulldogs'
Wyatt Walker garnered the honor after he averaged a double-double in a pair of games as Samford's sophomore center finished the stretch with 30 rebounds and 27 points, both team highs.

Other top performers in the conference last week included The Citadel's Zane Najdawi, ETSU's T.J. Cromer, Mercer's Ria'n Holland, Chattanooga's Greg Pryor, Western Carolina's Haboubacar Mutombo and Wofford's Fletcher Magee.

Denzel-Dyson and the Samford University basketball team will next be in action Tuesday at 7 p.m. (CST) as the Bulldogs travel to St. Louis, Missouri, for a pivotal non-conference contest against the Saint Louis Billikens to be held at Chaiffetz Arena.
