JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Samford University volleyball team's five-match winning streak came to an end Friday as the Bulldogs dropped a 3-0 decision on the road against the first-place ETSU Buccaneers in a Southern Conference matchup held in Brooks Gym.

With the loss,
Samford (17-11, 8-5 SoCon) also had its road winning streak snapped at three. The Bulldogs were swept 3-0 for the first time in nearly two months. Prior to Friday's loss, Samford's most recent 3-0 setback occurred Sept. 11, in a neutral tournament setting against Wichita State.

ETSU (18-7, 10-3 SoCon) remained undefeated at home this season and improved to a perfect 10-0 when competing in the friendly confines of Brooks Gym. The Buccaneers have been victorious in 10 of their last 12 matches.

En route to its 25-18, 25-20, 25-19 victory Friday, ETSU turned in a .297 attacking performance. Samford finished with a .171 mark in the category.

Individually, the Bulldogs'
Erin Bognar led the way with 11 kills, while
Taylor Anderton and
Erika Pifer added 15 and 13 assists, respectively. On the defensive end, true freshman
Grace Tiesman paced Samford with nine digs. Additionally, the Bulldogs'
Gabbi Greenwald,
T.J. Russell and Bognar registered a pair of block assists each.

ETSU swept the season series between the teams and moved to 5-2 in the all-time rivalry.

The Samford University volleyball team will next be in action Saturday at 4 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs close out their weekend road swing against the Furman Paladins. Saturday's matchup will be held in Greenville, South Carolina at Furman's cozy Alley Gymnasium.
