BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 73-54 decision to the Belmont Bruins Monday night at the Pete Hanna Center.

Mike Morris said. "They played a really, really good game. They started the game well and were very aggressive and physical, and we just didn't have a response."
In the loss, Samford was led by
Brittany Stevens with 13 points and four assists.
Ellen Riggins scored 11 points for the Bulldogs.
Belmont was led by Sally McCabe with 17 points and nine rebounds. Lauren Thompson and Darby Maggard added 14 points each for the Bruins.
Belmont controlled the game from the start. The Bruins scored the first six points of the game and led, 18-5, at the end of the first quarter. Belmont led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter, and took a 39-23 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter, Belmont pushed its lead out to 25 points at 55-30 with 2:48 left in the period. Samford trailed, 57-35 at the end of three quarters. Samford cut the Belmont lead to 19 points twice in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs could not get any closer, as Belmont came away with the 73-54 win.
As a team, Samford shot 40.0 percent from the floor, while Belmont made 48.3 percent of its shots. Belmont won the rebounding battle, 41-19.
With the loss, Samford falls to 4-5. Belmont improves to 6-4 with the win. Samford will host cross-town rival UAB Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center. To purchase tickets for the UAB game, click here:
