Men's Golf Leads Folino Classic After Two Rounds

INDUSTRY HILLS, Calif.—The Samford men's golf team sits in first place after the first two rounds of the Folino Classic, played Monday at the Industry Hills Golf Club (par 72, 7,037 yards).

As a team, Samford shot a two-round total of 578 (284-294) on Monday. UC Irvine is currently in second place with a score of 590 (289-301).

"I'm really proud of the way my guys played today," Samford head coach Al DelGreco said. "I feel good heading into tomorrow's final round."

Individually for Samford, junior Ashton Nix led the team with a one-under par score of 143 (71-72), good for second out of 57 golfers. Senior Zach Hughes fired an even-par 144 (73-71), placing him in a tie for third overall.

"Ashton had two great rounds to lead the way," DelGreco said. "Zach continues to be a great leader and our most consistent player."

Samford freshman Crawford Flach is currently in a tie for seventh after shooting 146 (69-77). Freshman Aaron Walker is tied for 15th after shooting an opening-day total of 150 (71-79), while junior Robert Adams sits in a tie for 27th following his two-round total of 153 (79-74).

"Crawford had a really good first round and grounded it out in round two," DelGreco said. "Aaron played well in the first round, and Robert Adams carded a 74 in round two."

The individual leader after the first two rounds is Daniel Chian of Long Beach State, carding a two-round total of 138 (68-70).
