Guillorel competes in xc meet
Bulldogs Travel To Tuscaloosa For The Crimson Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - - In the final meet leading up to the conference championship, the Samford cross country teams will travel down the road to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete in the Crimson Classic Friday. The Classic will be held at the Harry Pritchett Running Park, which will also serve as the location of the 2017 NCAA South Regional meet.

"This is a preview of where the regional meet will be at so it gives the kids the opportunity to study the course a little bit and try out some new things on it," said Samford cross country coach Pat McGregor

This meet will be filled with plenty of strong competitors on both the men's and women's side as teams running from the South region include Alabama, Middle Tennessee State, Georgia Tech, Auburn Lipscomb, Florida State and many others. The 'Dogs will also compete against Southern Conference foes Chattanooga and Mercer.

"Cross country is a sport where you have to be tough and that anybody can be beaten on any given day so that gives them the belief that they can take on some of the top teams in the south region," McGregor stated when referring to Anna Long being their top performer over Karisa Nelson at the previous competition in Louisville.

As for the men's team, McGregor said the team will be healthier than it was going into the earlier meets this season.

"We had some guys who were banged up and sick and we are getting Arsène Guillorel back for this competition so we will be fine on the guy's side," McGregor said. "Those guys don't need me to motivate them, they will be ready to go"

This will be the 'Dogs fourth competition and final tune up before the SoCon Championship meet which will be held in two weeks on Saturday, Oct. 28th in Spartanburg, S.C.

The men will compete at 9 a.m. (CT) over 8,000 meters as the women follow at 9:45 a.m. on a 6,000m course.
