MACON, Ga. -- The Samford University soccer team extended its winning streak to nine consecutive matches Friday as the Bulldogs posted a demonstrative 3-1 come-from-behind victory on the road against the Mercer Bears in a critical Southern Conference showdown held at Bear Field.

With the triumph,
Samford (10-5-1, 6-0 SoCon) also extended its undefeated streak to 10 straight matches.

Since playing to a 1-1 home draw with Georgia on Sept. 8, the Bulldogs have rattled off consecutive victories against Western Kentucky, 1-0, UC Davis, 1-0, Saint Mary's (CA), 1-0, Western Carolina, 1-0, ETSU, 2-0, Chattanooga, 3-1, UNCG, 2-0, VMI, 4-0, and
Mercer (9-7, 3-3 SoCon). During the stretch, Samford is outscoring its opponents by a total of 19-3.

The Bulldogs'
Abriella Argueta,
Grace Packer and
Nyalyn Moore all scored second-half goals in Friday's road victory at Mercer. Argueta's fifth score of the season evened the match at 1-1 in the 55
th minute of play, while Packer's tally proved to be the game-winner in the 78
th minute.

Packer's second goal of the season gave Samford its first lead of the match, 2-1, and was assisted by senior forward
Jermaine Seoposenwe.

Seoposenwe, the reigning SoCon Player of the Week, as well as the reigning SoCon Player of the Year, assisted on all three of the Bulldogs' goals Friday and upped her team-leading total in the category to seven. Seoposenwe holds Samford's all-time career records in goals (35), assists (37), points (107) and game-winning goals (15).

Following Packer's decisive goal in the 78
th minute, the Bulldogs' Moore quickly put the match out of reach just three minutes later to give Samford its 3-1 advantage. Moore's goal, her first of the season, occurred at exactly 80:58 in the match.

The Bulldogs outshot Mercer, 15-8, and won the corner kick battle, 6-2.

Anna Maddox, a native of Warner Robins, finished with four key saves Friday and improved her record between the pipes to 10-4-1 this season.

In the 19
th minute of the first half, the Bears' Valeria Bermeo scored her third goal of the season to give Mercer an early 1-0 lead. Bermeo's score was assisted by Halee McDuffee and proved to be only the second goal allowed by Samford in SoCon play this season.

The Bulldogs have only allowed a total of four goals in their last 12 matches dating back to Aug. 27. During the stretch, Samford has outscored its opponents by a total of 24-4.

Samford, which has won three straight SoCon titles, is in the midst of a 16-match winning streak against conference opponents. The Bulldogs have not been defeated by a SoCon rival since Sept. 25, 2016, when they were topped at Furman, 3-2.

With Friday's victory, Samford head coach
Todd Yelton reached the prestigious 200-victory plateau. Yelton owns an impressive 200-88-36 record at Samford and has been named the SoCon Coach of the Year in each of the previous three seasons.

The Bulldogs own a 10-2-3 overall record against Mercer.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs continue their weekend SoCon trip against The Citadel. The match will be played in Charleston, South Carolina, on The Citadel's campus at the Washington Light Infantry (WLI) Field.
