BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University soccer team extended its winning streak to seven consecutive matches Friday as the Bulldogs posted a 2-0 shutout victory against the UNCG Spartans in a key Southern Conference showdown held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Samford (8-5-1, 4-0 SoCon) used key goals from seniors
Jermaine Seoposenwe and
Abriella Argueta in the second half of action to garner the victory. Seoposenwe's team-leading eighth goal of the season occurred in the 73
rd minute of play, while Argueta followed quickly in the 76
th minute to notch her second score of the year.

With her goal, Seoposenwe tied the school's all-time goals-scored record with 34. She moved even with
Malcanisha Kelley, who achieved the mark last season as a senior. Seoposenwe is the reigning SoCon Player of the Year, as well as the league's active career leader in points scored (100), goals (34), assists (32) and game-winning goals (15).

Samford outshot
UNCG (5-7-2, 2-2-1 SoCon), 25-7, and dictated the pace of play for a predominant portion of the match. The Bulldogs finished the contest with nine shots on goal, while the Spartans tallied three.

Senior goalkeeper
Anna Maddox, the reigning SoCon Athlete of the Month, notched three huge saves Friday and earned her sixth shutout of the season.

Since playing to a home 1-1 draw with Georgia on Sept. 8, the Bulldogs have rattled off consecutive victories against Western Kentucky, 1-0, UC Davis, 1-0, Saint Mary's (CA), 1-0, Western Carolina, 1-0, ETSU, 2-0, Chattanooga, 3-1, and UNCG, 2-0.

Samford has only allowed a total of three goals in its last 10 matches dating back to Aug. 27. During the stretch, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by a total of 17-3.

Samford, which has won three straight SoCon titles, is in the midst of a 14-match winning streak against conference opponents. The Bulldogs have not been defeated by a SoCon rival since Sept. 25, 2016, when they were topped at Furman, 3-2.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Sunday at 2 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs conclude their current three-match SoCon homestand against the VMI Keydets to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
